If you’re reading this, then you must of just said YES to the love of your life. Well CONGRATULATIONS! Once the shock and adrenaline has worn off, it’s time to FOCUS! LOL You’ve got some work to do to make the most of your engagement. Below I’ll give you some things to start thinking about to create success towards a stress free next step in your life. LET’S GO!

  1. Yell out and tell the great news

Let your most important people in your life know even before changing your status on social media. The excitement will spread like wildfire and you will then begin to start brainstorming on who you want to include in your big day.

2. Start dreaming about your wedding

Before you get started crossing things off your wedding planning checklist, you’ve got a lot of daydreaming to do! Take our quiz to find out what wedding fits your personality to get started. Next, you can begin choosing what color theme you love and making a Pinterest mood board to help you nail down your style. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what your wedding style should be – hiring a great wedding planner can help you have the wedding of your dreams even if you’re not sure what that looks like yet!

3. Set a budget

Setting a budget may not sound like a lot of fun, but it’s an important step to cross off your list early in the wedding planning process. Are you wanting a destination wedding or one at a local church or a big dream venue or your backyard? Many choices including how many people attending to how much you value different vendors. Talk to your significant other and families and you will figure out if you will have some help paying for everything, no help at all, or you have someone footing the entire bill cuz they love you! :)

4. Take engagement photos

Micaela-116.jpg

Hire a photographer and plan a date to go ahead and get your Engagement Portraits out of the way soon after everyone hears the great news of you saying YES! Once you get those images back and post them, this will show everyone that you are well on your way to start planning your wedding. You will also be able to see and feel the chemistry, connection and comfortability you have with the photographer. Then you can go ahead ask them for their wedding information and see if they are available for your upcoming wedding day and their prices and what they offer fit into your budget and dreams. I’d suggest doing this asap as most vendors are booked up to a year out.

5. create a guestlist

After you set a wedding budget, it’s time to sit down and create your guest list. You will want this guest list prior to meeting with venues and caterers, as it will decide what you will be able to afford and what type of venue will work best for you guest count. Then after all your meetings with vendors and narrowing down all your budget needs once you know now who you want to work with, then you can start trimming the list or adding people. Then off to the next BIG STEP…..

6. CHOOSE A VENUE AND SET A DATE

Now that you know your guest count and budget, you can start the venue search! Do you want a local or destination wedding? Make sure to look through a list of the best wedding venues in your area all over the world to find the perfect match in your area. Lastly, don’t forget to come prepared with questions and take photos as you begin to tour venues! Also, don’t forget to remember season of the year for temperature of the day and night.

7. Build your vendor team

Leslie-565.jpg

It’s important to select your dream team of wedding vendors early as many of the best professionals are booked a year or two out! Ready to hire your wedding photographer, planner, florist, videographer, and more? Google is your friend or maybe by word of mouth you have heard is great at every area you need. Also, INSTAGRAM is huge here to hashtag what you want and see if the vendor you want and love is in your area.

8. Say yes to the dress

Micaela&Robbie-236.jpg

Even though you just got engaged, you might be shocked to learn that it can take six to nine months for your dress to be shipped to you, and that doesn’t include the time it took you to find your dress! It’s best to get this step out of the way as soon as possible just in case there are any last minute hiccups. On the hunt for the perfect wedding dress? Etsy has homemade dresses and maybe mom or grandma wants you to wear theirs. Also there’s always 5th Avenue :) ( just make sure when you go try them on with family and friends, BRING TISSUES! )

9. STAY ORGANIZED
